Protect Your Water Supply by Winterizing Your Well House
East Texas got the snow of a lifetime last weekend. Tyler got 4” of snow alone! The snow is always fun, but unexpected weather can lead to major problems to your water. Winterizing your well house can prevent expensive damage and protect your water supply.
It is important to keep all pipes located above the surface insulated and warm during freezing temperatures. The most neglected area when insulating pipes is the “landing zone”. The landing zone is where the pump comes out of the ground and tees off to the PVC pipe that connects the pump to your pressure tank. Be sure to pay extra attention to this area. Metal freezes faster than plastic, be sure to go back and make sure all your metal pipes are covered properly. Below are our recommendations for protecting your water source.
Wrap heat tape to line your pipes. This stuff is great. When the temperature hits below 40 degrees, the heating element turns on automatically.
Insulate your pipes with rubber insulation.
Add a small space heater to your well house.
